Riding energy spikes

After a really important sync, there should be enough space given to ride the energy spike it creates. To let that momentum carry something forward.

But folks often get stuck in back-to-back meetings right after, and that’s a detriment.

I think of it a little like diving in the ocean. It takes time to go deep, and it takes time to come back up. If you’re constantly being asked to surface, a lot of your time is spent going down and coming back up, with very little time to actually look around.

A good sync can get people to that depth together. You’ve talked through the problem, asked questions, and finally understand why something isn’t working. Maybe someone says something that makes a few things click. Now you have an idea of what to try.

That’s a really good time to go make something. Sketch it out, test a small part of it, or follow the thought a little further while it’s still fresh.

Instead, everyone has to surface for the next meeting. A different problem, with a different group of people. By the time you come back, you have to find your way down again. The notes help, but they don’t necessarily bring back the energy you had when things clicked.

I think we should leave more space after those conversations. Even if we don’t know exactly what someone will do with that time yet. Sometimes the useful thing to work on only becomes clear during the sync, and it would be nice to have enough room to actually follow it.
